I am a dedicated and compassionate registered social worker with over a decade of experience working with children, teens, and adults who have experienced trauma, anxiety, and challenging life circumstances. I graduated from York University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Social Work, resulting in my career as a Registered Social Worker.

My passion and experience for helping children and families who have experienced trauma and adversity led me to pursue a career in counselling. I use a relational approach and dyadic developmental psychotherapy approaches with youth and caregivers to help strengthen their relationships. My focus is on creating a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their thoughts and feelings, and develop the skills they need to overcome challenges and thrive.

I have worked with a wide range of clients, including children, teens, and adults who have experienced abuse, neglect, anxiety, and traumatic events. I am known for my ability to connect with my clients and create a safe and supportive environment where they can explore their thoughts and feelings.

My approach to counselling is deeply rooted in empathy, compassion, and respect. I believe that every client has the ability to heal and grow, and that my role as a counsellor is to provide the support and guidance they need to do so. I use a variety of evidence-based techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy approaches, mindfulness, and trauma-informed therapy, to help my clients develop the skills and resilience they need to overcome their challenges and thrive.

Melanie is both a Registered Psychotherapist (qualifying) and a Registered Nurse working for the last 13 years in the field of Public Health supporting, promoting, protecting and teaching about such things as parenting, mental health, smoking cessation, healthy living and injury prevention.

From her own experiences and the experiences of some of those closest to her, she believes that mental health exists on a continuum and that what impacts a person’s mental health is a unique and subjective experience. Melanie believes that while every person will have their mental health affected at some point in their life, some at multiple points, every person can achieve mental health.

Melanie has specialized training working with women during the perinatal period and also really enjoys supporting people with self-esteem, shame and anxiety.

She believes that for counselling to be successful, treatment should be centered on learning from and with each person, respecting and valuing their unique experiences, and learning what is important to them. She is passionate about taking a holistic approach, coming alongside others, infusing hope, and tailoring her support to assist each person in realizing their innate strengths and, together, overcoming barriers, reaching goals, sparking joy, and attaining peace.

Melanie desires to support, and sustain change. The kind of change that will ignite joy, hope, peace, and excitement in life. Change that embodies and recognizes the unique gifts that exist in each person.
